Maplewood Campus - North Summit Academy
Our school exists so that students may obtain a quality education in an atmosphere that is free of exposure to mood altering chemicals and the people who use them. Our school also exists to provide recovery support, education, and a sober social network, which is essential for recovery.
Sobriety High Charter School has been in existence since 1989. We have about 50 students on our campus in grades 9-12. Our school is not divided into grade level classes. Each student gets their own individual schedule based on where they left off in their subjects. There are also some elective classes each quarter a student may choose to take. Because of chemical use and how it impacts lives, many of our students come to us behind in their credits, or with gaps in their learning.
We have students with a variety of educational needs, including students who are ready for advanced classes. If a student is doing well in all their classes, they may ask to do independent work with a teacher for additional credit.
We also offer optional summer school courses for students to make up credit, retain structure and recovery support during the summer, and/or to get ahead on credits. Because most of our students begin with us after leaving treatment, it is very normal in our community for students to join classes at any point during a grading period. In such situations, we give partial credit if a student earns only part of the credit during a grading period.
