FUNDING HISTORY
How does Sobriety High Foundation support recovery high schools in Minnesota?
Established in 2003, Sobriety High Foundation’s (SHF) mission is to provide funding and quality professional assistance to recovery schools, almost exclusively in Minnesota. As their primary conduit of contributed funding, SHF directly supports five recovery campuses in Minnesota, located in Maplewood, Edina, Burnsville, Coon Rapids and Litchfield. Four of the schools are now part of the Sobriety High Charter School (SHCS) charter; the fifth has recently been absorbed by the Litchfield Public School District.
In Fiscal Year 2006, Sobriety High Foundation contributed over $500,000 to supplement the short-fall in what public dollars would not cover in our schools. This support came first and foremost from hundreds of supportive private individuals, with additional funds provided by several foundations and corporations, as well as limited targeted government funds for research and program expansion.
In Fiscal Year 2006, Sobriety High Foundation undertook the establishment of two new recovery schools, one in Coon Rapids and another in Litchfield. There were significant one-time startup expenses involved and the Foundation incurred substantial indebtedness as a result, much of which has been retired but approximately $160,000 remains.
