ABOUT US:
Quality Resources in Support of Minnesota’s Recovery Schools
Today, only a small Percentage of the 20,000+ high school age youth in Minnesota who self-identify as being personally affected by alcohol and drug abuse are receiving the support they require. Unfortunately, while the need is clearly great, there are fewer than 500 desks at recovery high schools across the State, of which fully one-half are currently provided by the schools supported by Sobriety High Foundation.
Established in 2003, Sobriety High Foundation's (SHF) mission is to provide funding and quality professional assistance to recovery schools, almost exclusively in Minnesota. as their primary conduit of contributed funding, SHF directly supports five recovery campuses in Minnesota, located in Maplewood, Edina, Burnsville, Coon Rapids, and Litchfield. Four of the schools are part of the Sobriety High Charter School (SHCS); the fifth was recently absorbed by the Litchfield Public School District.
In Fiscal Year 2006, Sobriety High Foundation contributed over $500,000 (see Funding History) to suppliment the short-fall in what public dollars would not cover in our schools. This support came first and foremost from hundreds of supportive private individuals, with additional funds provided by several foundations and corporations, as well as limited targeted government funds for research and program expansion. The Foundation has continued its same level of support to Sobriety High Charter School in subsequent years.
In addition to substantial financial support, SHF offers the five existing campuses of Sobriety High School proprietary administrative and acedemic software, school equipment and facilities, effective and out-comes research, staff development, and techincal assistance. These services are generally outside of the purview of state and federal education funding. Also, on a fee-for-service basis, Sobriety High Foundation occasionally provides its professional services to emerging recovery schools outside of the SHF system, including in other states.
The Sobriety High system is growing. Just a few years ago there was only one school - now there are five. While recognizing that the need is great for many additional recovery schools, the Board of Trustees of Sobriety High Foundation also acknowledges that any organization has a limited capacity for expansion and growth. Therefore, the trustees are committed to ensuring sound financial footing for the Foundation, thereby providing meaningful and reliable funding to the existing schools, before committing to any further expansion.
As a major part of its mission, Sobriety High Foundation is currnetly budgeted to provide over $250,000/year in support for education of youth in recovery. The bulk of these funds will be used to provide direct financial support of the schools of the Sobriety High system. The future for youth in Minnesota who are battling the scourge of addiction is positive, specifically because of the efforts of Sobriety High. It is our hope that you will help us achieve our mission. Donate Now.
