The 2008 First Swing of Spring was a smashing success!
On Monday, May 5, Sobriety High Foundation (SHF) sponsored its 7th annual Sobriety Swings Golf Event at Brackett’s Crossing Country Club in Lakeville.
Scheduled every year for the first Monday in May, when the snowbirds have had time to return, and everyone is eager to challenge themselves on the newly thawed courses here in Minnesota, Sobriety Swings is a favorite among many Twin City golfers.
With a nearly full course, generous sponsors, and a truly outstanding silent action, the event netted over $23,000 to help educate youth in recovery.
“We are so pleased with the results”, said Diane Naas, Sobriety Swings Trustee Liaison.
“We nearly doubled last year’s net income. I attribute this to the hard efforts of our outstanding Planning Committee members”. ![]()
One reason the event does well is the high number of repeat participants.
“This it truly one of the better organized charity golf events around” said Liz Olson, a new member to the Sobriety Swings Planning Committee, but long-time charity activist and golf event planner. ![]()
“The pre-planning and hard work of volunteers and staff ensures that every participant has a great time.”
“Of course, the one thing we can’t control, the weather, has always been on our side”, said Event Chair, Jeff Erager.
“I couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful day, nor a better course.
Mother Nature was clearly smiling down upon us.”

“Few golf courses offer better services and support to charity golf events than Brackett’s Crossing”, added John McElhatton, Player’s Coordinator for the event. “I participate in a charity event nearly every Monday of the summer, and the feedback I get from this tells me it is top-notch.”
The 2009 First Swing of Spring has already been scheduled for Monday, May 4.
